If only I had the guts to write this in my Art History exam...
Ever realized that no matter how much modern art has moved in the last 20 years, it actually didn't go far at all...It's kind of like art ended with Jackson Pollock...Have we really run out of new stuff? What's next? Should we really care about this massive revolution of art that we need so much...or is it because we care so much that we don't see it happening?
I always wonder what the Surrealists thought when they started to gather and paint all these wonder works. The main question is, were they stuck like us, looking for something new? I don't think so...I actually believe art can't go anywhere anymore untill it freezes completely for a good period of time. Like the Surrealists with their lovely idea that all these fancy paintings mean nothing, we need to go back to the primitive ideal of life. Well, I still think we need to go back to our original roots to find the answer we're looking for. This whole "art" thing is wayy too compicated. for me, it's supposed to be simple, easy to understand. Just plain art. Bingo?
Then again...I also noticed that a majority of people sit for hours and hours trying to find a idea or theme to express...Then after a while they paint a beautiful, meaningful work...but this is where the cliche's come in. They all look the same..becuase our small human, subconsious mind only enables us to think as far as arm length around us. The real true art comes in when you paint something that makes you feel free...that realeases your mind (oh Freud) and then think to yourself, "What does this mean to you?"
Then again, should art even be meaningful? What if it's just a pretty picture that makes you go "wow"
Is art what the artist say it is? or the art critic?
Now, my poor photography board has this one problem...it has NO idea...It looks like it has, which is cool...but I never thought, "oh I want to show anorexia" and took photos of really thin people's...It just never happened. I though, hey, I like that black square..let's take a photo of it. That way, the viewer can look at it and say, "This reminds me of a corprate wall that the world creates" nah nah nah nahhh *sings*. That, is what I love about art with no meaning...it talks to a person in their language, saying what they need to hear.
Opinions?
*runs into a wall*

and the last fish has been caught
will we realise we cannot eat money
